The newly formed Hornsea Branch held only its second meeting on
Thursday, 7th April in the Victoria Hotel, Hornsea. The evening
kicked-off with a Hull City quiz, just for fun which proved to be
somewhat challenging to say the least. The next quiz will have to be
more topical to encourage the scores!
Following the quiz the branch's guest speaker, Tigers legend, Stuart
Elliott was introduced and gave a resume of his football career which
began at school in Belfast. He was spotted by Manchester United but
didn't make it through to their junior setup and returned to Northern
Ireland to eventually play for Glentoran before being transferred to
Motherwell. He made the move to Boothferry Park pre-2002/03 season
along with Jan Molby's other signings which included Ian Ashbee, John
Anderson, Stuart Green, Greg Strong, Shaun Smith and Richie Appleby.
Stuart's talk concluded with questions from the floor followed by an
opportunity for the fans to pose for photographs with the
well-respected former player. Branch spokesman, Chris Smith, remarked
that he was pleased to see that the number of members and guests had
increased and noted that two new members had been recruited on the
night.

City striker Aaron McLean was the guest speaker at the recent Driffield Branch meeting held at the Blue Bell, Riverhead. Aaron entertained a good crowd of over 60 people answering questions on all subjects, about football, music & his other interests.
Aaron was disappointed to have been cup-tied for the recent FA Cup game against Wigan but was itching to get his goal scoring account at City off the mark, hopefully in the forthcoming game against Barnsley.
Aaron spoke about his pop star brother, McLean, & how he would like to have been a musician as well. He talked about growing up in London around Millwall & how his boyhood idol was Ian Wright although he confessed to supporting Chelsea as a child.
The raffle & the “stand-up bingo” managed to raise just over £200 & was presented to Dave Potter on behalf of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre. John Dawson, who won the two Leeds United game tickets, very kindly put them up for auction which raised £50. Thanks to all who contributed to this fantastic sum that the Driffield Branch managed to raise on the night.
Thanks must also go to Aaron for coming to Driffield, to Danny Pratt for helping with organising the event & to Linton Brown at Hull City for providing the signed ball & Leeds Utd tickets. Also thanks to Dave Greaves for the photographs.
It is hoped that fitness coach Sean Rush & ex Tigers favourite Justin Whittle will be the next guests at the Driffield Branch. Keep an eye out in the local press for details.

Mark Cullen Attends Beverley

Mark Cullen with Beverley OSC Committee members
By Peter Johnson
On Monday 15 November, young Tigers starlet Mark Cullen was the special guest of the Beverley Branch of the Hull City Official Supporters Club, at The Lincoln Arms pub.
Mark took his place in front of an audience of approaching 50 fans and answered a wide range of questions. He gave an interesting insight into what brought him to Hull from his native North-East and in particular he paid tribute to Youth team coaches Billy Russell and Neil Mann who impressed him and encouraged him to come to the KC.
It is sometimes easy to forget that Mark only turned 18 six months ago. However he has been with us over 2 years now and he is nicely settled in the Hull area. He told us how excited he was playing in the Premiership last season and scoring against Wigan. Mark named Liverpool's Jamie Carragher as his toughest opponent so far, telling us how Jamie reads the game brilliantly. Mark also discussed the differences between playing in the Championship as opposed to the Premiership and told us that if anything, the Championship is quicker.
Fans asked quite a few questions about Nigel Pearson's role and style, his training and his preparations for games. Mark told us that Nigel uses a nutritionist to monitor the players' dietary needs, but whilst he had to be cautious, it did not prevent him having the occasional burger or pizza!
Mark unsurprisingly named Alan Shearer as his boyhood hero and made it clear he was English through and through. His main aim in the short-term was to establish himself as a first-team regular, but he would love to play representative football and play in the Premiership again.
Ashington-born Mark gave straight answers to some tricky questions. He went on to tell us he likes the occasional game of snooker and darts, but leaves the golf to the likes of Craig Fagan, Jimmy Bullard and Anthony Gerrard.
Mark has still to meet the new owners of the club, but he said events off the field had little impact. Morale had been fine in the Tigers camp, but he said the Preston win was really encouraging, something that the assembled City fans certainly agreed with.
This was only the second time Mark had appeared at an OSC event and he handled it very well. He got a warm round of applause at the end of proceedings and stayed behind a while to allow photographs to be taken. It was a great evening and let's hope Mark makes a return trip to Beverley later in his career. He will be very welcome, as he was a credit to his profession.

The rising Hull City star also answered questions about his recent call-up to the Scotland U-21 squad, his liking for pool and snooker and his need to take more shots at goal during games. OSC Great Escape Dinner Success

Members of the great escape team with David Burns of Radio Humberside
By Tony Conway
“The Great Escape" Reunion Dinner was a great success and enjoyed by over a hundred fans. They were treated to a 5 course dinner and entertained by the guests who were interviewed in a relaxed atmosphere by David Burns. The Football Club also provided a DVDof the 1998/99 seasons highlights. This was greatly appreciated and brought back some great memories of that important season and of times at Boothferry Park.
The OSC would like to thank Justin Whittle who helped the OSC contact the players and put the event together. He was joined by Steve Wilson, Rob Dewhurst, Mark Greaves, Gregor Rioch and Colin Alcide from that season, plus ex players Jason Harris, Steve Moran, Tom Wilson and Stan McEwan. Warren Joyce had to send his apologies at the last minute owing to a trip abroad for Manchester United.Warren was so disappointed that he has volunteered his services for a future event.
It was clear that all the players held Warren in the highest regard and the escape from relegation was mainly due to Warren's management style and the great team spirit that was built up. The lack of money for the wages and expenses was in stark contrast to more recent times at the club but this appeared to work in the teams favour as they jelled together to fight their way to safety. Interesting stories about eating worms at training, travelling to away matches in their own cars, evenings out in Hull night clubs and a team holiday in Spain kept the
fans entertained until midnight.
An auction of sports memorabilia raised over £300 for the breast cancer charity, "Breakthrough". A charity selected by Justin and the ex players.
Thanks are due to the events sponsors, SGM Consultants and Roses Kitchens, Beverley Pine and Dodds Roofing Services for their programme adverts. Also to Strawberry for producing the fantastic souvenir programme and The Village Hotel for staging this memorable event

Bostock entertains Beverley in season opener

John Bostock with some Beverley OSC members
By Dan Morrison Photo by Dave Greaves
Just as John Bostock kicked off Hull City’s season with a bang scoring a wonder goal against Swansea he pushed on by kicking off the OSC branch visit calendar with a trip to Beverley on September 6th.
John entertained a crowd of around 60 at the Lincoln Arms talking about his career to date including his time at Crystal Palace where he became their youngest ever professional player and Tottenham Hotspurs where he has developed under Harry Redknapp.
Always happy to answer questions John expressed the importance of training and practice to the youngsters in the crowd and further bolstered his popularity by declaring a victory over Leeds and promotion as two big goals for the season.
Not just answering serious questions John had to mention an incident earlier in the day involving has and Tom Cairney’s Cars. After a well received 30minute grilling from the crowd the on loan youngster spent time signing autographs and posing for photos as well as engaging in conversation with anybody who had further questions or any youngsters who wanted further advice about how to become a pro.
Overall the event was a huge success and a great start to the OSC calendar. On behalf of everybody who attended we would like to thank John for an entertaining evening.
