Hunt named Player of the Season

Stephen Hunt took the top honours at the Official Supporters Club’s End-of-Season Awards Night as the prizes were shared out among the Tigers’ squad.

Six players took home trophies as the departure of Michael Turner cleared the way for a fair fight.

And full-back Andy Dawson deserves an almost equal share of the credit after walking off with five branch awards as well as coming third in the overall vote.

Veteran midfielder George Boateng was second, as well as winning the Goal of the Season honours for his stunning volley in the victory over Manchester City.

But it was Hunt who polled the largest share of the vote, also scooping three branch awards and being named Tiger Travel Away Player of the Season to boot.

The Irishman paid tribute to the Tigers faithful, saying: “It was the first time I’d come up north and I was probably taken aback in terms of the fans’ support.

"If I do leave then I’ll have no regrets, that’s the biggest thing. I’d like to thank all the players, the fans and the management staff – both sets of staff."

Craig Fagan and Steven Mouyokolo also won branch awards, with Mark Cullen named Young Player of the Season and the OSC’s South-West branch co-ordinator Bernard Noble Supporter of the Season. Further reaction from all the award winners will appear in the upcoming issue of our Tiger Mag newsletter.

Tigers turn out for 10K

Picture

A Hull City team turned out for the Hull 10K on Sunday May 23, while OSC press officer Tom White and membership secretary Trevor Richardson also took part in the race in their own right.

City team members included goalkeeper Matt Duke, youth recruitment officer Neil Mann, his fellow ex-Tigers Steve Wilson and Neil Allison,
community health manager Matt Conway and club mascot Roary the
Tiger, raising funds for Yorkshire Cancer Research and Everyman.

Mann was the quickest finisher of the bunch in 46 minutes nine seconds, less than 12 minutes behind race winner Matthew Hayes of East Hull Harriers. Allison followed in 46:37, with Conway's 47:46 and White's 47:54 good enough to beat past and present City keepers Wilson (48:39) and Duke (1:00:08). Rush clocked 55:21 and Richardson 1:16:32, with Roary finishing in one hour and 44 minutes - over 15 minutes quicker than mascot rival Rufus the Robin from Hull Kingston Rovers!

Win tickets to A Question of Sport and support the NSPCC's Save this Number Campaign

Picture
This month the NSPCC is running a three week Save this Number Campaign with Barclays Premier League and Football League clubs across the UK.  Players and supporters are being invited to save the NSPCC Helpline number: 0808 800 5000 in their phones in case they are ever concerned about the welfare of a child.  Football clubs including Hull City are promoting the campaign in their match day programmes and on their websites.

What is the NSPCC Helpline?
The NSPCC Helpline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Helpline staff are there to offer advice and support to adults concerned about a child. When you call, you don’t have to tell us who you are, you can remain anonymous.  The most important thing is to call.

Why save the number?
You never know when a child might need you. Not all children can speak out for themselves. We are asking you to save our helpline number to your phone in case you need to call us with a concern about a child’s welfare. You may be that child’s only hope.

Win tickets to A Question of Sport live filming!
To celebrate the launch of the campaign we’re offering supporters the chance to win two tickets for to see A Question of Sport being filmed. You’ll share some laughs and test your sporting knowledge whilst they film the quiz, and get to meet the stars of the show afterwards. You can also win two tickets to one of the live tour shows.

For your chance to win, just text NSPCC to 83138.  And whilst your phone is in your hand, why not save the Helpline number? 0808 800 5000.  (Texts cost £1.50. At least 92p goes towards helping the NSPCC Helpline continue to answer calls to protect children.  Lines close 28 May.)

NSPCC supporter and Aston Villa player James Milner is backing the campaign:
“The NSPCC Helpline is such a great service and I urge everyone to save the Helpline number in their phone for a time when they might need to use it to help a child. I have the number in mine and am delighted to be supporting the Save this Number campaign.”
